Metro DX Club
Meeting Minutes February 21, 2014 Old Business
a.)
Health and welfare: There will be a memorial for Roger, K9RB,
before the Hamfesters meeting on Friday, March 7. Details will be sent when
finalized. b.)
All members received a copy of the November meeting minutes.
Approval was moved by K9DRS, seconded by K9CJ and approved. c.)
W9ILY reported that correspondence had been received from JDRF,
the Amsterdam Island DX Group and INDEXA thanking us for our donations. Also
received was a letter from Taking Care of Your Diabetes to which we had donated
last year. We also made donations to NCDXF and the Tinley Park EMA thanking them
for use of their fine meeting room. d.)
Treasury Report: Balance is $1508.69. Income was from one WUST
award, membership dues and the Winterfest raffle. Expenses were for the
quarterly web site cost, donations, pizza at our November meeting, Winterfest
prizes and postage. Details were distributed to all members. W9ILY noted that in
2013 our treasury increased by $1.51 after all income and expenses were posted. e.)
Contesting: The main upcoming contest will be ARRL-SSB. Tomorrow
the NAQP-RTTY contest will be held and Metro will field a team of the “Metro
Marauders”: K9PY, N9LAH, NV9X, W9ILY and W9OA. W9ILY reported that Metro
members have participated in eight contests so far in 2014. f.)
WUST Award Update: One award was issued toW6ZQ and an application
from KG8CZ was just received and included his QSL from K9W. This is the first
WUST request that included the K9W card. g.)
Winterfest Dinner: N9TK reported on our Winterfest dinner that was
held on January 17 at the Harvest Room Restaurant. Everybody had a good time and
enjoyed the menu. Pictures are posted on our web site. h.)
2014 Dues: Five members have not been heard from concerning their
continuation of their membership in 2014. Those were K9GA, KA9ZZT, VK2HV and
W4REX. W9AEB will be contacted by WF9V concerning his 2014 dues. New Business

New Members: We officially welcome Mike, WB9LSH and Mike, W9MK to
Metro.Welcome, guys!!! b.)
Upcoming DX: 3C0BYP from Annobon will be active very soon. The
NG3K website (www.ng3k.com) should be checked
for upcoming operations. c.)
New Club Award: W9ILY described several ideas for a new Metro club
award to stimulate DXing among club members. After a discussion of the
possibilities, it was decided to have a Metro WAE Challenge. The idea is to work
countries in the Worked All Europe listing. There would be three categories of
entries: members having less than 100 DXCC credits, those having between 100 and
200 DXCC credits and those having over 200 DXCC credits. W9ILY will post the
details. d.)
Plaques: It was discussed that Metro present a maximum of two
plaques per year to members at the discretion of the Board who have participated
in a noteworthy manner. A $60.00 per year budget was discussed. This was moved
by N9ORD, seconded by W9PDS and approved. e.)
General discussion: 1.
John, K9DRS presented a sample cap that could be printed with
Metro information. The cap would feature stitched lettering rather than screened
printing and can be ordered from John for $18.00. John also will research other
items that could be sold as money-making projects by Metro such as T-shirts,
towels, etc. Those interested in ordering a cap should contact John, K9DRS.

A plaque of appreciation was presented to Bob, K9CJ. This was a
total surprise for Bob who was very appreciative and quite speechless. 3.
K9PY brought many items for a raffle including a mug, repeater
directory, grid maps, etc. The proceeds from the raffle went to the club
treasury. In addition, Jerry brought to a large bag of homemade cookies baked by
Brenda, Jerry’s XYL. They were delicious! A motion to close the meeting was made by K9DRS and
seconded by N9ORD. Meeting closed at 8:02. Attendees: K9AJ, K9BWQ and XYL Delores, K9CJ, K9DRS and XYL
