OLD BUSINESS:
Health and Welfare: Sadly, long time member Jack W9NJB passed away peacefully
on October 16. W9ILY read a portion of Jack's obituary that highlighted Jack's
history and the organizations to which he belonged. Jack held the position of
Secretary/Treasurer for Metro for many years and will certainly be missed.
Several club members shared their remembrances of Jack with the group.
The MINUTES of the previous meeting were moved approved by K9PY and seconded
by KA9ZZT.
The TREASURERS REPORT was distributed by John, W9ILY. $946.18 is available
for donations. We had income of $39.95 with expenses of $14.85. The treasurer's
report was approved unanimously.
WUST activity: Two WUST awards were issued, one to DL1ASA and one to SP8IQR,
both for 16 confirmations.
CONTEST RESULTS:
There were no contest results to report this month. However, several members
including WA9LEY, W9OA, N9IHZ and W9ILY participated in the Illinois QSO Party
for Metro.
EOC antenna: This project still on hold pending an administrative decision.
The cost estimate is between $500 and $700. Metro will get together with Pat
Carr to discuss the project.
NEW BUSINESS
Contests scheduled in the near future were mentioned. A brief discussion was
held concerning our again offering the "Most Improved DXer" award for
2017 as we did not have this competition for 2016.
Special Event Station: Our upcoming Special Event station activity using the
W9C special call was discussed at length. We will use the call W9C which we have
for one week beginning on October 31st through November 6th. A sign up and
schedule list is currently on www.dropbox.com. If members have a problem with
Dropbox, let w9ily@comcast.net or n9tk@comcast.net know and they will assist.
W9C operations will be from your home QTH. In addition N9TK has arranged with
WB9Z for a group to travel to his QTH for the operation and to see Jerry's
superstation on Saturday November 5 from 10:00 to 15:00. Jim will meet
interested members at 7:30 for breakfast at the Cracker Barrel at I-57 and US-30
in Matteson. Jim will obtain food for the club and the club will reimburse him.
This was agreed to by all members present.
Winter Dinner: The annual Winterfest Dinner was discussed and WA9LEY
volunteered to again be the chairman. We were very pleased last year with Papa
Joe's in Orland Park. The proposed date is Saturday, January 21, 2017.
Dues for 2017: Dues for the upcoming year were discussed and all agreed that
there should be no change from the current $15 annual cost.
Nominations for and election of club officers will be made at the November
meeting.
The DXpedition to Bouvet in 2018 was discussed and both N9TK and WB9Z will be
team members. All agreed that the club should make a donation in the name of the
club with an amount to be determined at a later date.
General Discussion:
A general discussion was held concerning sea sickness cures, something that
N9TK and WB9Z will certainly need for the boat trip to Bouvet.
Following a motion to adjourn by N9IHZ and second by WA9LEY the meeting was
called to a CLOSE at 20:18.
Following a short break, a video of the huge 80 Meter Yagi at WØAIH in
Wisconsin was presented. The video of the work being done at the top of the 120'
tower was made by a drone.
