METRO WAE CHALLENGE During the entire year of 2014, in
order to stimulate DX chasing for Metro members, it’s been decided to have a
“Worked All Europe (WAE) Challenge”. There will be three categories for you
to enter based on your current DXCC totals. Those having fewer than 100 DXCC
counters are LEVEL 1, those having between 100 and 200 DXCC counters will be
LEVEL 2 and those who have over 200 DXCC counters will be LEVEL 3. At the end of
the year, the member in each category having the most WAE counters will receive
a nice prize. You should keep track of your WAE totals and let W9ILY know your
counts so your data can be entered on the WEB site. So, what is WAE anyway? Every year, the DARC (the German equivalent of the ARRL) sponsors several contests known as the Worked All Europe contest. There are separate contests for each mode: SSB, CW and RTTY. The idea is to work as many of the 73 WAE locations during the contest and each count as a “multiplier” for a contest score. Our Metro WAE challenge is certainly not as complicated as the contest. All you need to do is to WORK a station anytime during the year and report it on the summary sheet. That’s it! Simple! A summary sheet is shown below. You’ll probably see a number of prefixes that are a bit unfamiliar and are not normally thought of when thinking about Europe, such as 4U1V, TA1, JW/b, ER, ES, GM/s and probably others. Your first job might be to look over the list and identify these rather “odd” locations. Adds to the challenge, doesn’t it? So, let’s go and report those Metro WAE Challenge numbers to W9ILY so everyone can keep track of their position and how the competition is going. In case of a tie within a category, the person WHO FIRST REACHES (LOGS) the winning number is the category winner. This could be done early in the year or late in the year. Who knows? It’s important to keep an up to date log and report your numbers as soon as possible so both you and the others know where everyone stands. In case you need it, below is a log for your use.
